Not all international students are aware that they can study in Canada without giving an IELTS exam, which is a pleasant surprise for those who find out for the first time. In reality, the Canadian Embassy is now allowing international students to study in Canada without taking IELTS.
There are a few alternative paths that an international student can take to study in Canadian universities without taking or passing the IELTS test. The first and simplest step is to look for universities that do not require the IELTS.
Another option is to complete an online English language course and then provide the certificate to universities that accept it. The final option may seem obvious, but it is worth mentioning.
To study in Canada, an English proficiency certificate, such as the TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language, CAEL – Canadian Academic English Language, or CanTEST – Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees, must be obtained.
Where Can I Study in Canada Without IELTS?
Since we previously stated that it is possible to study in Canada without IELTS, we will now show you which higher education institutions will accept you. Because Canada is constantly attracting international students, the option to study without IELTS makes it even more appealing. Before we get into specifics about which universities in Canada make IELTS optional, you should check the international student entry requirements of the university you want to attend. Each tertiary education institution has its own set of admission requirements.
While some elite institutions prefer IELTS, others, such as the new Duolingo English Test, will accept alternative forms of English language evaluation. In fact, if you have studied in an English-medium school for four years or more, higher education institutions in Canada will accept you without IELTS proof. We have compiled a list of Canadian universities that accept international students who do not have an IELTS score.
