    Mudras: The Hidden Leaf In Natural Remedies For PCOS

    Staying active is one of the best ways to manage your PCOS symptoms – especially in correcting the underlying hormonal imbalance. Although diet is an important part of your PCOS treatment journey, you also need to stay physically active to not only improve your overall health but also to reduce the severity of symptoms.

    Although with PCOS, any type of exercise works as long as you can sustain it and enjoy performing. And one of the workouts is yoga for PCOS. Performing yoga can not only improve flexibility and strength but is also a great form of low-impact workouts to supplement your daily routine. 

    Yoga for PCOS alone may not be as helpful as cardio and strength training to lose weight and see an improvement in your symptoms – certain intense forms of yoga such as Bikram yoga helps burn more calories than other forms.

    Mudras for PCOS

    Mudras are specific hand gestures that help facilitate the flow of energy in the body. And mudra literally translates to gesture in Sanskrit. 

    These are certain mudras that you can perform during your next yoga asana:

    • Gyan mudra

    Gyan mudra is one of the most common mudras used by yogis and is the easiest one to do. This mudra can be performed anytime but is usually done during pranayamas or meditation.

    How to perform Gyan mudra?

    Place your hands on your lap with palms facing upwards. Join the tip of your thumb with your index finger and stretch out the other three fingers on each hand to hold the position.

    • Can help helps to manage insomnia
    • Can improve mood and well-being
    • Improves overall brain health 
    • Can be beneficial in relieving headaches
    • Vayu mudra

    As the name suggests this mudra can help to balance the air element in the body. This mudra is a great way to relieve different types of pains such as in arthritis, sciatica. 

    How to perform Vayu mudra?

    Fold your index finger and touch the second bone on your index finger with the tip of your thumb. Apply gentle pressure such that the tip of your index finger touches the base of the thumb. Straighten your other three fingers.

    Benefits of doing Vayu mudra

    • Can help reduce bloating
    • Helps in relieving constipation
    • Relieves chest pain
    • Provides immunity against cold and cough
    • Surya mudra

    This is a powerful mudra, and as the name suggests, the fire element is associated with the metabolic functions in the body. Practising this mudra can help maintain the right body temperature and boost metabolism. 

    You should avoid practising this mudra or should practise in moderation if you have problems with indigestion or acidity.

    How to perform surya mudra?

    Bend your ring finger inward and place the tip of it at the base of the thumb and touch the second bone with the thumb. Apply gentle pressure. Straighten out the other three fingers. Practise this mudra on an empty stomach and in a sitting position.

    • Helps in reducing bad cholesterol  
    • Helps with weight loss
    • Helps improves metabolism 
    • Improves digestive health
    • Prana mudra

    This mudra can help balance the life element in the body. This mudra can help improve energy levels, blood circulation and also strengthen your immune system. 

    How to perform prana mudra?

    Touch the tip of your ring and little finger with the tip of your thumb and keep your other two fingers i.e. index and middle fingers straight

    Benefits of performing Prana Mudra

    • Can help strengthen the immune system 
    • Help reduce high blood pressure
    • Helps with proper blood circulation 
    • Can improve mood disorders
    • Helpful in maintaining digestive health
